Aluminum Bar Stock Metal
Aluminum Bar Stock Metal
A fact to know about Aluminum steel is that picking a material based on its strength is a common practice even in high-stress applications. When the reduced weight of aluminum is considered, aluminum comes out on top with a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel. Want to know more about Aluminum Round bar stock? Aluminum Steel History
Aluminum existed long before the metal we know today. And, it is even more available today by just acquiring from our trusted aluminum round bar supplier. According to Pliny the Elder’s Natural History, a first-century craftsman presented an unknown metal cup to Tiberius, the Roman Emperor.
Ancient civilizations employed alum, an aluminum-based salt. ‘Alumen’ is the Latin term for aluminum. The name comes from Humphry Davy, an English chemist who discovered in 1808 that electrolytic reduction of alumina (aluminium oxide) could generate aluminium.
Aluminum Steel Grades
To give you a better view of the right precision ground steel bar choices for you, here are the most commonly used grades ;
1100 Aluminum
It is an excellent option for forming operations that require a high degree of precision. Because of its high thermal conductivity, it is well-suited for use in various applications. In terms of purity, this is the highest-quality aluminum commercially available. Plus, it’s effortless to work with, and it’s very pliable.
2024 Aluminum
The aerospace industry frequently employs 2024 aluminum alloy. As a result, it can be used in applications where a high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent fatigue resistance are needed. Moreover, Copper is the primary alloy in 2024, as is the case with other 2000-seriesalloys. It contains manganese and magnesium and a small amount of silicon and iron.
3003 Aluminum
It is the most widely used bar stock metal supply. Cooking implements and pot lids can be made of it, but it isn’t strong enough to withstand the heat of an oven or grill. Magnesium has been incorporated into the aluminum alloy 3003 to boost its tensile strength. It has a nominal Mn content of 1.2 percent, a Cu content of 0.12 percent, and an Al content of 98.6 percent as an aluminum alloy.
The 6061 Aluminum
The “Workhorse Aluminum” is aluminum grade 6061. Its corrosion resistance is superior to that of the 300 series alloys. Because of its resistance to corrosion and abrasions is used in guttering and furniture with exposed corners.
6262 Aluminum
Copper, lead, silicon, magnesium, and bismuth are included in the alloy. Due to the alloying process, including lead and bismuth, 6262 aluminum has exceptional machinability. It is a heat treatable aluminum alloy with good corrosion resistance and overall strength. 6262 is no doubt an excellent choice. Screw machine products, camera parts, nuts, couplings, marine fittings, and nuts are all examples of applications for Grade 6262.
7075 Aluminum
As one of the strongest aluminum steel round bar stock available, 7075 aluminum is an excellent material to have on hand for high-stress applications. 7075 aluminum is susceptible to corrosion because of its high copper concentration, yet this trade-off is necessary to create a solid yet functional alloy. Aircraft parts and other parts prone to heavy wear can benefit from the material’s low density.
