440C stainless steel is hard to machine, with a machinability rating of 50% of 304 and 23% free-cutting carbon steel AISI B1112. Sharp, rigid, carbide-tipped tools and powerful machines are recommended, with heavy cuts and slow speeds being used in conjunction. However, Nitronic 60 is readily welded using any available conventional process.
