Carbon Steel Round Bar and Its Quality
High-Quality Carbon Steel Round Bar Stock
Not only do we excel in precision grinding services but we are also known to provide our clients with excellent carbon steel round bar.
CARBON STEEL
At O’Hare Precision Metals we produce quality Carbon Steel Round Bar and centerless ground bar stock that are available in various grades and shapes.
We are a carbon steel round bar supplier that frequently stocks up on cold rolled steels that come in a variety of grades, forms, sizes, as well as finishes.
The range of the elements found in carbon steels like carbon and manganese enables the development of a vast range of toughness, strength, and wear resistance characteristics. The increased carbon and manganese content allow high levels of strength and hardness after a heat-treated condition. In addition, it will also lead to optimum combined strength, toughness, hardness, and wear resistance that is obtained through carbon steel analysis ranges. As the percentage of carbon increases, carbon steels tend to become stronger and harder after heat treatment.
We have an extensive range of cold rolled bar carbon steels – from low carbons, medium carbons, and up to high carbons. We work on expanding our capabilities in the production of materials that earn such a heavy demand from varying industries. To meet the high requirements and requests of our customers, we also perform essential machining operations for any of your manufacturing and industrial requirements.
Carbon Steel Grades
Grades for cold rolled steel bar and carbon steel round bar stock are classified and evaluated by their material, mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical properties for the production of mechanical parts.
Carbon steels, like any other metals and steels, also have varying grades, each suited for certain treated conditions, environments, and temperatures.
Almost all carbon steel grades are evaluated and specified to determine their specific contained mechanical and chemical properties that may have different effects and roles in varying environments. The results in finishes may also vary in the grades.
Carbon steel grades are capable of withstanding heat treatment when placed in the following possible conditions:
- Spheroidizing
- Full annealing
- Process annealing
- Isothermal annealing
- Normalizing
- Quenching
- Martempering (Marquenching)
- Quenching and tempering
- Austempering
The identification and classification of centerless ground bar and carbon steel grades matter in steel standards to guide metallurgical refineries and laboratories, product manufacturers, and even forging industries, and other variants in the proper application and processing procedures for ensuring quality towards best and safe use.

CARBON STEEL RODS
We stock carbon steel rods in various grades and shapes. O’Hare Precision Metals despite its providing excellent centerless ground bar and precision grinding services have compiled different types of product catalogs which also include carbon round bars. The round bar stock is general-purpose, offering excellent weldability and formability. As a result, the round bar top is used in many applications. This iron-carbon alloy contains about 2.1 wt.% carbon. We are the leading carbon steel round bar suppliers to auto manufacturing, aerospace, shipbuilding, and auto-power industries, among others.
Types of Round Bar
Steel round bar has properties such as high hardness, anti-corrosion, strength, and wear resistance. The metal bar is long and cylindrical. O’Hare Precision Metals offers various types that include hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, or alloy steel. Round bar stock sizes range between 1/4″ up to 24” in diameter. The round top bar can be low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, or high-carbon steel. Stated below are the different types of carbon steel round bars that you can take advantage of:
Low-carbon steel: It is the most widely used type of steel round bar. It has about 0.25 wt.% of carbon content which is very low. These round bar grades cannot be hardened using heat. Instead, cold work is used. They are also soft with low strength compared to other metals, however, they possess high ductility. This quality makes them an ideal investment for low-cost machining and welding. The low-carbon steels can also contain nickel, copper, vanadium, and molybdenum, which increase their strength.
Medium-carbon steel: The carbon content in these round bar stock is between 0.25 – 0.60 wt.%. It also contains a manganese content of 0.60 – 1.65 wt.%. Using heat, the mechanical properties in these carbon round bars improve, which is followed by quenching and tempering, giving them martensitic microstructure. As a result, hardened medium-carbon steel gains more strength. However, they have low ductility and toughness.
High-carbon steel: It contains carbon content between 0.60– 1.25 wt.%. If you want a round bar stock with high hardness and toughness, these steels make the best option. However, this steel has low elasticity but despite that these round bars have a high resistance to wearing because they are hardened and tempered.
Additionally, there are die steels and tools steels that can contain other alloy elements. These elements include chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. Adding these elements results in a hard, wear-resistant steel round bar.
CARBON STEEL Round Bar STOCK
We are suppliers of carbon steel round bar stock. We supply a variety of sizes and strengths with the aim to meet the specific requests set by our customers for their different applications.
Carbon steel has the combined forces and properties of iron and carbon which entails the specific use of the material. O’hare Precision Metals has its inventory of carbon steel round bar stock for sale in an extensive range of sizes to comply with the heavy demand of our customers. Depending on your industry specifications, our extensive inventory of carbon steel bar stock is always ready to provide you with high carbon, medium, as well as, mild and low carbon steel. Interestingly, most industries rave about high carbon round stock steel that has very high strength, ultra hardness and resistance to wear, and moderate flexibility. High carbon round stock steel is used in cutting tools, because of its ability to keep a very sharp end under stress. One great example of high carbon steel is the 1010 steel round bar.
The machinability of the 1010 steel round bar, (cold-drawn or cold worked) is fairly good. The 1010 steel round bar can be easily formed and welded using conventional methods and can even be turned into a hot rolled or cold rolled steel bar. The cold working capacity of the 1010 steel round bar is good, the hot working capacity of the 1010 steel round bar is among the ranges of 482 – 93°C (900 – 200°F). We also carry 1095 bar stock for sale. Contact us for a one on one chat with a sales representative.
Carbon Steel Round Bar Types
Mild and low carbon steels – (0.16-0.29% carbon content) are the most common steel with low cost. They possess material properties that can be accepted in different uses.
Medium carbon steels – (0.30-0.59% carbon content) have good resistance to wear and they balance both ductility and strength.
High carbon steels – (0.6-0.99% carbon content) this type of carbon steel is used primarily for high-strength springs and wires.
Ultra-high carbon steels – (1-2% carbon content) these carbon steels are specialized for cutlery applications or punches since they are tempered and quenched to great hardness.
Contact O’Hare Precision Metals is a carbon steel round bar supplier that’s pretty well known for having the best metal ready and available for use. Whether you want a stainless round bar with corrosion-resistant, light-weight aluminum round bars, or hot-rolled or cold-rolled round bars, we are just the right company to call. We also offer brass round bars that are deemed useful for their strength, corrosion resistance, and spark resistance. While our carbon steel round bars cater to marine, auto manufacturers and shipbuilding applications, and many others. The identification and classification of the centerless ground bar and carbon steel grades are important in steel standards because they guide metallurgical refineries and laboratories, product manufacturers, and even forging industries, as well as other variations, in the proper application and processing procedures for ensuring quality and safe use.
